Thomas Close – President (1989)
Thomas holds a degree in Operations Research and Information Systems from Eastern Michigan University. Before venturing into technology, Thomas co-founded the country's 3rd largest professional lawn care company, Turf-Pro, which was eventually sold to Orkin. He also played baseball for the Kansas City Royals. He later joined forces with his father, a former educator who founded the company in 1964, and together they formed ATC. Thomas is the proud father of three children and enjoys family time and outdoor activities. He was instrumental in the development of Tech-Design® and has received numerous curriculum design and sales achievement awards. ATC is nationally recognized for its leadership in technology education.

Kathy Abbosh – Customer Service (1997)
Kathy came to ATC in 1997 with 15 years of corporate experience, part of which was spent at the U.S. Census Bureau. Her background is in retail design and communication. She plays a vital role at ATC, handling a wide range of responsibilities in customer service. When customers call, Kathy provides expert assistance with Lab-Volt parts, delivery schedules, pricing, workshop attendance, and equipment repairs. She is eager to serve; if she can’t answer a question, she makes sure customers reach someone who can. Kathy and her husband have two adult children and two grandchildren. She is a member of Oakland County 4H, and her greatest passion is spending recreational time with her grandchildren.

Lisa Hunter – Business Manager (2000)
Lisa joined the ATC Team in 2000 with 10 years of prior experience working in accounting and dealing directly with a large regional sales force. Lisa is responsible for handling all accounting functions and purchasing. Her attention to detail and organizational skills meet the high standards our clients expect. In her free time, she enjoys camping and NASCAR racing. She is the proud mother of two boys.

Janice Noelke – Sales Support (2006)
Janice came to ATC in 2006. She has a diversified background, having worked as an assistant in the medical, insurance, and real estate fields. She has handled a variety of office support functions including claim processing and reception. Janice is also trained in accounting and enjoys working with numbers. At ATC, she assists all of the Sales Consultants by preparing quotes and bid proposals across product lines. Her meticulous attention to detail is essential in this demanding role. Janice is very family-oriented and enjoys spending time with her three children. To unwind, Janice loves listening and dancing to R&B music.

Teresa Pilarz – Marketing Coordinator (1995)
After graduating from Michigan State University with a double Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Spanish, Teresa worked at ATC from 1995-2000 as Thomas’s Assistant. She had a broad range of responsibilities in administration and accounting. Over the next six years, Teresa earned a Master’s degree in Spanish from Bowling Green State University and traveled extensively. She has taught Spanish at the college level and for adult education, and also operates her own tutoring service. Returning to ATC in 2007, Teresa now oversees website updates, trade shows, and other marketing projects. Her leisurely pursuits include reading, writing, cooking, and spending time with her handsome husband, Joe, and sassy, old cat, Misu.

Michelle Sayre – Staff Specialist (2000)
Michelle came on board in 2000 as administrative support. Over the years, Michelle and her husband, Mark, have relocated from Ohio to Illinois, Tennessee, and finally Michigan due to opportunities with Mark’s career at Bridgestone/Firestone. During that time, Michelle worked as a secretary for 17 years at General Tire in Akron, Ohio, and in various other positions as the family moved. She has extensive experience in administrative operations, and coordinates many office functions such as ordering supplies, maintaining customer lists, and keeping us organized. She has two children, enjoys yoga, and is active in several needlework guilds in the area.

Keith Anderson – Sales Consultant (2007)
Keith is a newer edition to the ATC Team, but comes to us with fifteen years of sales experience in the transportation industry. Having received numerous sales awards for his performance, he has an in-depth understanding of what it takes to match customer with product and ensure complete satisfaction. Keith is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a resident of Aurora, Illinois where he will be taking over for Gregg Zydeck. He is married with two children and plays a mean game of golf in his free time. He also enjoys bow hunting and fishing.

Mario Avendano - Sales Consultant (2007)
ATC is proud to welcome Mario to the Team. Mario attended the University of Texas at Brownsville and pursued a degree in International Business with a minor in Computer science. He has an extensive background in IT, and spent 16 years as a consultant with Fortune 500 companies. He specializes in networks, operating systems (Linux) and applications development. Mario grew up in South Texas and Mexico and is fluent in Spanish. He recently returned to live in his hometown of Brownsville, where he will develop ATC’s Southern Texas territory. Mario has a wife, Charity, and daughter named Natalya. Some of his interests include working on cars, spending time on or near the water, and getting out to a baseball game when he has a chance.

Mike Bennett – Regional Sales Manager (1996)
Mike received his degree from Western Michigan University in Business Management. As former Regional Vice President of Operations for All Green, and owner of Fairway Corporation, Mike brings valuable experience in business operations. He has been instrumental in organizing, operating, and equipping labs for our Indiana and Oklahoma customers. Mike enjoys sports and has been active in youth sports programs as a football coach in Rochester. He resides in Argos, IN with his lovely wife Jill and sons Korbin, Collyn, and Gavin.

Greg Briggs – Service Specialist (2000)
Greg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University and is Vocational Certified. After a 25-year teaching career at Mill Creek Middle School, this former Teacher of the Year joined ATC to support our service and training needs. We are fortunate to have him as he is well recognized among his peers as an innovative instructor, mentor, and football/wrestling coach. His positive attitude has left a life-long impression on his students who love to visit their former teacher. Greg also co-founded a company that designed, tested, built, and marketed wind-tunnels. After hours, Greg is active with the local Lions Club and threatens to take up the game of golf someday. He has two children and two grandchildren who make him very proud.

Bob Kelly – Regional Sales Manager (2005)
Bob comes to ATC with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a comprehensive background in both industrial and educational sales. He was a product designer for five years, and then spent 18 years at EMCO Maier where he progressed in the company from Application Engineer to National Sales Manager. Bob also has served as national chairman of the CNC competition at SkillsUSA for three years running. He represents ATC in Ohio and his in-depth technical knowledge is an important resource for the whole team. Bob has a vibrant personality and thrives when he is interacting with customers. He is married and has two children. In his time off, Bob enjoys time outdoors, especially while boating or kayaking.

Donald D. Lake - V.P. of Special Projects (1996)
Don is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in Industrial Education. He retired from Zeeland High School in 1996 after 31 years of teaching, the last three of which were spent using Lab-Volt curriculum. Until 1998, Don served as Zeeland's computer network supervisor and then became a Trustee of the district's Board of Education. Don joined ATC in 1996 as a Sales Consultant in western Michigan and has recently taken on a new role overseeing national distribution of EMCO products for education. His classroom and network experience enable him to provide his customers with a high level of technical expertise. He lives in Zeeland with his wife and two sons. During his free time, Don enjoys playing tennis, having spent twenty-eight years as a coach.

Kurt W. Maly – Regional Sales Manager (2003)
Kurt is a highly decorated veteran of the U.S Air Force where he served as a Senior Trainer and Career Counselor. He holds degrees in Business Administration from Campbell University, NC and Human Resource Management from the Community College of the Air Force. Kurt’s leadership skills and diverse background in the information management field are clear assets in his role at ATC, where he focuses on our northeastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey regions. Kurt and his wife Deana, an educator, live in the beautiful Pocono Mountains with their three children. Kurt enjoys quality family-time and often coaches his daughter’s softball and son’s baseball team.

Aaron Paul - Sales Consultant (2008)
ATC is happy to welcome Aaron on board as a vibrant new addition to the sales team. Aaron graduated from the University of Michigan in 2007 with a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently preparing to become a consultant by assisting with sales, support, and service at our headquarters in Michigan. Aaron is married to his lovely wife Bethany and they are expecting their first daughter in May. They both are very active as leaders for their church youth group. In his spare time, Aaron has been teaching himself guitar and he plays music and sings in his church band. He also enjoys working out and is an avid runner. Aaron’s genuine interest in people and desire to help others learn are a natural fit with ATC.

Jim Petzold – Support Staff (2001)
Jim first became involved with Lab-Volt and ATC as a teacher when his school installed a 30-module Tech Design® lab in 1994. Since then Jim has been formally recognized by ITEA with Teacher and Program Excellence awards. He also earned Illinois Industrial Technology Education Teacher and Program of the Year honors, as well as the Lab-Volt Teacher of the Year award. Jim retired from teaching in 2001, and has been an expert resource person for Lab-Volt and ATC for over 10 years, providing instructor training and installation assistance on furniture, hardware, and software. He enjoys gardening, fishing and warm weather activities.

David Rohm – V.P. of Sales, Eastern Region (1989)
David has a background in industrial arts and a wealth of organizational management experience. After several years as Eastern District Manager of Merit Machinery’s Educational Division, he co-founded Advanced Training Systems in 1982. ATS was a Lab-Volt distributor for the Mid-Atlantic region of Pennsylvania, W. Virginia, and Ohio and an important player in the educational technology field. In 2003, the company joined forces with ATC and David now splits his time between the Keystone State and southern New Jersey. David is a seasoned soccer and softball coach and fast pitch umpire. His love of the outdoors goes back to his early years as an Eagle Scout. These days he enjoys hunting, canoeing, hiking, biking, and tennis. David’s wife, Cathy, is a Speech and Language Therapist. They have two daughters: Lauren, a special needs teacher, and Emily, a student at Penn State University.

Max Schikora - Sales Consultant (2007)
Max is a great new addition to ATC. He is very tech savvy, having worked at Best Buy and Magnolia Home Theater for the past five years as a home entertainment solutions specialist. It was at Best Buy that Tom discovered Max, taking note of his outstanding sales skills and willingness to help. Max attended University of Michigan and studied Elementary Education, majoring in language arts. Perhaps it's the teacher in him that drew Max to ATC. After completing his training program in sales, support, and service at our main office, Max recently relocated to Plano, TX where he is now a Sales Consultant. For fun, Max enjoys mountain biking and spending time with friends and family. He's also a huge football and baseball fan.

Bill Sherrill – Regional Sales Manager (2000)
Bill graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Business & Economics degree. After graduation, he accepted a commission in the US Army where he was a First Lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division. Following completion of his military obligation, Bill joined Johnson & Johnson. During the next 19 years he took on a variety of sales and management positions concluding as Regional Sales Manager. Bill joined ATC in October of 2000 and is currently responsible for Central Texas. He lives in Austin and is married with three wonderful children. In his spare time, Bill enjoys running, basketball, and working out.

Chad Whited – Regional Sales Manager (2004)
Chad joined ATC in November of 2004 after earning a Bachelor’s Degree from DeVry University in Computer Engineering Technology. He spent his first year providing service, installation, and training in order to thoroughly understand the products ATC represents. Now he is an experienced consultant, focusing on sales in northwestern Ohio. Chad has been married to his wife Sarah since December of 2004 and they are the proud new parents of a baby boy named Logan! He and his wife are huge fans of college football, and enjoy watching the Ohio State Buckeyes on fall weekends. Chad’s other interests include watching movies, Reds Baseball (when they win), fishing, and golf. Chad is always eager to help customers and answer questions so please feel free to give him a call!

Gregg Zydeck – V.P. of Sales, Western Region (1991)
Gregg has a Bachelor of Arts in Operations Research and Information Systems from Eastern Michigan University. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in technical systems to our team as his affiliation with the company goes all the way back to 1991. Gregg came on board as ATC’s first Sales Consultant, and he has the distinguished honor of having installed the three largest technology education laboratories in the state of Illinois. Gregg also played an integral part in the development of the Tech-Design® program. His well-rounded background makes him uniquely qualified to help educators plan and maintain a dynamic, high-tech program. Gregg now focuses his sales efforts in Michigan and handles most of the state except for the Southwest region. Gregg has a lovely wife and two daughters. In the summer he is known to enjoy the outdoors and is an avid golfer and fisherman.
